KIRTLINGTON VILLAGE QUIZ 2013.
The 24th Annual Kirtlington Village Quiz took place on Friday February 22nd at the Village Hall.
This year there was an entry of 36 teams ( and indeed a reserve list waiting for any cancellations ). As ever there was a very close battle for the trophies and the winners (after a tie break question) were “Three Men and a Gynaecologist” captained by David Grimshaw. They and “The Cluefinders” captained by Judith Vickars both scored 49 points. It was a close battle, only being decided by knowing the length of the Film, “Titanic”. Five points behind with 44 points were “The Southerners” captained by Kevin Rose. In fact ten points covered the next 21 teams which gives an indication of how close it was. At the bottom of the scale were “Yes we Can” led by Jan Robinson who scored 24 points and although suitably embarrassed by winning the Wooden Spoon promised to be back next year!.
The question master was Larry Blackwell whose wit and repartee ensured that the participants were kept on their toes throughout the evening. I should also like to thank David and Mary Varney for their expertise in their vital roles of scorers, Giles Haynes for maintaining his high standard in running the bar, Ann Mowat and her ladies for making such a wide array of sandwiches and Gill Summerfield, Barbara Dunkerley and Cerys Cherry for selling so profusely the raffle tickets.
Again Barry Grinham of Camp Energy generously sponsored the Quiz and for this I am extremely grateful.
I am pleased to report that the Church Restoration Fund will benefit to the extent of £1547.93 which is £98 more than last year. The challenge therefore is to make next year’s event (which will be the 25th Annual Quiz) even more of a financial success and I look forward to that date which will be 28th February 2014.
I am detailing below the financial breakdown of this year’s event:
