After a gap of twelve years Kirtlington Youth Club (KYC) was re-established in 2010 as a direct response to a substantial amount of interest from both children and parents. It was clear that there was little for teenagers and young people to do in our village, and that limited public transport didn’t help.
The club is run by a experienced youth leader assisted by local volunteers. The club is open to boys and girls from 10 to 16 years of age and runs on Wednesday nights from 7-9pm in a dedicated room in the village hall. Our membership is currently over 40 young people and we believe the club has helped give our young people purpose, and add to community cohesion. It has quickly become an essential part of the village environment.
To set the club up we received a start-up grant from the local authorities and we have continued to be very well supported by the Village Fete and other charitable bodies. However the running costs of the club far exceed the support we have from the village fete committee, and the fund-raising environment continues to be challenging. Whilst the children have undertaken various fund-raising events themselves, we are seriously in need of additional funding to continue our operations.
Hence this appeal, directly to you as a village resident. If you could consider making a donation, however small, it would be greatly appreciated, and would allow the club to thrive. You can simply pay online sing our Paypal account, or, if you prefer, make out a cheque payable to ‘Kirtlington Youth Club’ or pass any cash donations to a member of the youth club management committee.
Yours Sincerely,
Tony Brett
