LOCAL AUTHORITY STRUCTURE DEBATE:
DO YOU WANT TO STOP YOUR LOCAL DISTRICT COUNCIL FROM BEING ABOLISHED?
If so, please sign Cherwell District Council’s petition against a Single Unitary Authority – Deadline: Friday 31st March.
Cherwell District Council, which governs many important aspects of our life in Kirtlington, is asking for signatures to its petition against Oxfordshire County Council’s proposal for a single unitary authority. This proposal would mean Cherwell District Council would be abolished and Oxfordshire would be governed by a single big authority.
Cherwell, West Oxfordshire and the City Council are against the County’s proposals but South and Vale District Councils have joined with the County Council. Barry Wood, one of Kirtlington’s District Councillors and Leader of Cherwell District Council says: “This isn’t about which political party you vote for; it is about whether Cherwell District Council remains in control of local services for local people”. Kirtlington Parish Council has stated its opposition to the proposal because it has no confidence in the County Council’s ability to deliver its services effectively and no confidence that the proposed changes will serve local communities adequately. A major concern is the safeguarding of Cherwell District Council’s development control policies and how these policies protect rural villages.
The Cherwell DC petition can be signed on line viahttps://www.change.org/p/stop-plans-for-a-unitary-authority… or you can sign the petition at the Shop.
