VILLAGE SUMMER FETE, DOG SHOW AND FUN-RUN
Please put the following date in your diary
Saturday 29th June 2013
Village Hall and Sports Field
Our main arena event this year will be:
They will provide two displays of falconry and organise ferret races.
Other attractions include:
Entry to the fete will be by programme on sale in the run up to the big day and on the day itself, £1 for adults, children free.
The Dog Show is organised by the Up ‘n’ Over Club. Entry will be on the day (prior to competitions starting at 3pm).
The Novelty Classes will include: 1. Handsomest dog; 2. Prettiest bitch; 3. Best veteran (over 6 years); 4. Best rescue; 5. Waggiest tail; 6. Most appealing eyes; 7. Best condition; 8. Junior handler (under 14); 9. Dog judges would most like to take home.
Rosettes and cups will be presented. £1.50 per entry.
The Youth Club (and friends) are organising this event again this year, and they propose a slightly changed route from last year, given the ‘sticky’ nature of the ground. It will still be a challenging, multi-terrain run/walk of approximately 3.72 miles/6km through the beautiful setting of Kirtlington Park (by kind permission of the landowners).
The run will start at 1:30pm, with registration in the village hall from 12:30pm. Entry will be £8 for adults, £4 for 11-16 year-olds either on the day or before the event using forms available online at Runner’s World or through the Kirtlington Fete website (will be updated in the next month – www.kirtlingtonfete.co.uk) or from the Kirtlington Post Office Stores from about the end of May. Any children aged 11-14 are welcome to join the 6km run/walk, but must be accompanied by an adult. A trophy will be awarded to the overall winner.
There will also be a 1km fun run for 5-10 year-olds around the sports field. Entry will be £3 (though any parents can join in free!) and the race starts at 1:45pm. Medals will be awarded to all runners who complete either course. If you are able to raise sponsorship, it will be most welcome.
This year the theme is ‘Wildlife’, either British or from around the world. The three age classes are adult, youth 11-16 year old and children 10 and under.
Printed entries (minimum size 4” x 6”, maximum size A4) should be delivered by Saturday 22nd June to Christine Marsh at Resthaven on Heyford Road with 50p fee for each photo entered (to cover display costs). All entries should include your name and address so they can be returned. Entrants to the Children’s Competition should include their age.
Judging will take place in the week leading up to the Village Fete, with as many of the entries as possible displayed on the day in the Village Hall. Prizes will be awarded to the winner in each age class, though you will be able to vote for your favourite in the ‘People’s Choice’.
We need lots of volunteers, if only for an hour or so, for example, to sell programmes, marshal the car park or register runners, etc. If you can spare us some time, please speak to any of the committee members to register your support (otherwise we may need to deploy the press gangs!):
Tony Summerfield (Tel, 351537 or Email, email@example.com) , Rev Jane Hemmings, Lorna Straker, Liz Pinker, Lyn Evans, Barbara Jeffries, Larry Blackwell, Celia Hawkesworth, Christine Marsh and Tony Brett.
